COMMENT ON CONSTITUTIONS
NUNS OF THE ORDER OF PREACHERS
CHAPTER ONE: TEXT
I - I . The nuns of the Order of Preachers began when the S. Father Dominic gathered in the Monastery of Pruillé some women converted to the Catholic faith and devoted to God alone (PC 7), associated with its "Holy Preaching" by prayer and penance. These nuns, and other similarly established by him in other places, the Holy Father gave a rule of life to follow and always showed love paternal care and, in fact, "had no other teacher who instruct in the things
's Order." Then, since they are part of the same Order, entrusted to the care of his children fraternal.
I. THE ORDER OF NUNS PREACHER: THE ORIGINS (1)
l. Of the women converted
What makes the originality of the first Dominican nuns is that they are at the heart of the Holy Preaching Prouille, a group of adult women converted, while in the Middle Ages, the most of the monasteries of the Cistercian and Benedictine monastic life prepared the girls to the age of eight or nine years.
Jordan of Saxony reports this trait in the story the foundation of Prouille:
"(Diego) founded a monastery for some women to accept that the noble family, because of poverty, to education and education of heretics ... These women thus converted
led a religious life similar to that the nuns of that time devoted to God alone - but their way of life had the characteristic of one of the nuns of the Order of Preachers: they were associated through prayer and penance to the 'Holy Preaching'.
II . By living with the nuns and the monks who tend to perfect charity towards God and neighbor, effective to treat and ~ procure the salvation of men, being convinced that are truly members of Christ only when impegnerannc themselves completely to gain souls, such as the Savior of all the Lord Jesus who gave himself totally s € for our salvation '. There is diversity of graces, but only one Spirit, a love, a mercy. E 'as its own monks, nuns and laity of the Order "preach to the world the name of our Lord Jesus Christ'," while the nuns is their look, ponder and call upon him in secret so that the word that comes from the mouth of God not return void, but prosper in those to whom it is addressed (see Is 55.10).
2. On the Order a
Dominican Nuns of the origins, cf: the book by MH Vicaire: History of San.Domenico, which is the beginning of Prouille and influence on the first nuns of St. Dominic.
The letter of Gregory IX to Blessed Jordan of Saxony is particularly valuable to understand that Dominic took care of the nuns:''
In their petition, which we read, (the nuns) state that were conducted by the teachings and example of Blessed Dominic, then Master of the Order, to renounce the vanities of the century and to choose to serve the Lord according to the Rule of St. Sixtus of Rome ... and that the Holy ... ruled that a prior four friars of the Order priests had the care of their spiritual interests and temporal ... It 'happened that they have had their origin in the zeal of perfect charity ... They have donated to your order and the St. Dominic has trained according to the teachings of the sacred doctrine ',
last sentence confirms the testimony of sr.Cecilia about the part played by Saint Dominic in the formation of the sisters:
"they in fact Teacher who had no other life forms to Order '".
II. THE FUNDAMENTAL CONNECTION: FIXING THE PURPOSE (§ 2)
E 'A change was made to the text of 1971. E 'was added: "The friars, nuns and laity of the Order", this underlines the common purpose of the whole Dominican Family. The Dominican Family, which is dedicated to the latest issue of the fundamental constitution of LCO, it is its fundamental place in our Constitution. But perhaps there is a lack of harmonization with the beginning of the paragraph where charity seems to be reserved for monks and nuns! Would not it be better to speak of the nuns, lay people - and the brotherhood of secular priests and secular institutions - from the beginning of the paragraph?
Paragraph 2 is mainly composed of quotations: the implicit reference to the prologue of the Rule of St. Augustine on the twofold commandment of charity Libellus, 13; Bull of Honorius III, Is 55.10.
1. The service of the Word
THE heart of the paragraph: The citation the Bull of Honorius III in 1221 expressing the view as well as the Order of St. Dominic conceived it before his death: "To evangelize the world in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ." A quote from the text occupies the entire first paragraph of the fundamental constitution of LCO, it says its importance. Here is the text of LCO and remarks made by Fr Vicaire.
LCO I, § I: Writing to s. Dominic and his brothers (the bubble 18/01/1221, Pope Honorius / Order II expressed the view in these words: "He that his Church fruitful with new offspring forever, wanting to bring the most ancient and modern times to propagate the Catholic faith has inspired a desire for love which embraced poverty e professata la vita regolare, vi dedicate all'esortazione della parola di Dio, dando per il mondo intero il buon annuncio del nome di nostro Signore Gesù Cristo".
