The nuns of the Order of Preachers

San Domenico, before dying, "gave the nuns which parts of the same order to the fraternal care of his children" (FUNDAMENTAL CONSTITUTION OF NUNS 1 § I). The first Dominican community he founded in Prouille consisted of nuns, and one of his last concerns was the construction of a monastery in Bologna: "It is absolutely necessary, brothers, to build a home for nuns, even if it means suspending the moment work in our house. " The monasteries are run by Dominican friars and all, all the brothers, in turn, are assigned to prayer and the care of nuns. This reciprocity is placed at the heart of the Dominican Order.

All are called to be contemplatives.

We seek God in silence and prayer, study and debate, loneliness and love. Exploiting the full potential of our heart and our mind, here we look for traces of God but is God himself who finds us when we least expect it. Mary Magdalene, the first Patron of the Order, is the true contemplative looking for the body of Jesus has been taken by surprise, feeling called by name by the Risen Lord. Our prayer springs from this deep desire and, as Catherine said, "The desire within himself is prayer. "

Our life is entirely shaped by the search for God's vocation of a nun" reference is to the entire Christian people of the fundamental vocation of each encounter with God "(verb Sponsa 4). As One of Marie-Dominique Chenu wrote: "The mystical life is not fundamentally different from the Christian life." Do not escape from the dramas and crises of ordinary human life. We know we live without hearing the joys and hardships of each human life, without the protection so many things that give meaning to most human lives: marriage, children, career.

The monastery is a place where there can be no escape from the application Last of all human life. One nun wrote: "I'm not coming into the monastery to escape from the world, to forget nor to ignore its existence, but to be present in it in an even deeper, to live in the heart of the world, in the shadows, but in a way that I feel more real. I did not come here to seek a peaceful and comfortable life, but to share, to accept the suffering, pain and hope of all humanity. "

Our lives are marked by the mission of the Order, the Dominican community life, the search for truth, our entire order belong.
